How long will you ignore your best employee?

Are you giving your strongest employee this one crucial component that will make or break your business?

You think you know who your strongest employee is...but you’re wrong.

Your highest performer.
Your strongest asset.
Your best employee.

The most loyal of any employee, wouldn’t leave, couldn’t leave even if you begged.

The one that cannot be replaced nor replicated.

The one that openly steals the credit for everything good that happens in your business on a daily basis and whenever something bad happens, in a manner of emotional atrophy, stoically tells you that they were only doing what you told them to do, passively implying that you were the cause of it.

What if I told you that this employee is right?

I know. You’re probably thinking this is yet another accountability article which we’ve all seen a fafillion times already, but it’s not.

Yes, accountability is undoubtedly a factor, but this piece is about the arrogant certainty that you know who you’re strongest employee is and me blatantly telling you that you – are – dead – wrong.

So what do you do?

Before the identity is revealed, let’s start by talking about how this employee should be treated.

Since this employee requires attention to live, you must introduce them to everyone you meet. Failure to do so will result in this employee becoming crippled, unable to do anything for your business. Mishandling or ignoring will cause your business to stagnate and eventually fail.

Because of the importance of this employee’s role, they are so indispensable, so irreplaceable, so undeniably necessary that you must invest heavily in whatever it takes to build them up.  What confuses you more is that this employee didn’t become this way recently, or over any length of time for that matter.  Oh no, this particular employee began this way and, believe it or not, is exactly what you were looking for when you brought this employee on. A perfect fit for your business by any act of measurement or testing.

Here’s the tricky part. You have to treat this employee like you would any other in that yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, even daily reviews may be necessary to keep them on track.

This employee, with no exception, is in every business that ever existed. Yours, mine, theirs, even that one over there, too.

This employee’s start date, interestingly enough, began before any compensation was ever discussed or agreed to.

This employee will only ever work as hard as you tell them to, but never more.

This employee never takes breaks, continues to work on holidays, wouldn’t dream of using any personal days off, not even one, and in the unfortunate event they get sick, the entire business feels it and winds up getting sick, too.

This employee goes by countless names but will never respond to any of them.

Powerful and wielding endless potential, you can never shake the hand of or even touch this employee at all, yet in order to succeed must be a living, active member of your team and involved in every decision.

This employee is not a computer.

This employee is not you.

This employee...

is...

Brand.

When will you start giving your brand, your best employee, the one crucial component that it needs to survive and thrive?

ATTENTION.

It’s what we’re all fighting for. I hope I’ve gotten yours.
